WHAT IS IT?

A HEAD START FOR THE
BRIGHTEST YOUNG MINDS

BIOTech Futures is an innovation and mentorship program that aims to empower the brightest young minds. Our initiative connects high school students with world-class academics to think creatively about scientific inspired solutions to challenges in the fields ranging from medicine and health to sustainable environment, emerging technologies, regulations and ethics.

Since its inception in 2019, BIOTech Futures has produced almost 1000 student alumni from 75 schools across metropolitan, regional and rural Australia and around the globe. These students have been paired with 120 academic mentors on 200 research projects in fields ranging from materials science and humanitarian engineering to digital health and cell biology. At BIOTech Futures, innovation comes first. In 2022 we launched BIOTech Connect - an exclusive club for all challenge participants. This industry first initiative allows students and mentors to chat, network, share scientific resources and news, and much more. You can become part of a community of the next generation of budding young minds, all in a centralised hub via the log in on the website. We're looking forward to seeing you there.

THE BRIEF

DESIGN SOMETHING THAT SOLVES A PROBLEM

image-removebg_edited.png

The competition is open annually to students who think differently, to create products that work better.

The judges – and Prof. Hala Zreiqat especially – are drawn to projects that employ clever yet simple engineering principles and address clear problems.

As well as proving a project’s technical viability, we love entrants to show us creativity and collaboration, too.

This year BIOTech Futures will also be looking for entries that address a sustainable issues and humanitarian engineering and what that means in the context of Australian priority areas and globalisation.
