Our Story

Bringing together scientific minds to tackle the biggest challenges in biotechnology.

Our Start

"One of the greatest gifts of research is not only to impart knowledge, but to inspire the leaders of tomorrow." — Prof. Hala Zreiqat AM

Founded on the belief that innovation knows no age, BIOTech Futures began when Prof. Hala Zreiqat travelled to Jordan to share her research with high school students — and realised that inspiring future leaders was just as important as the research itself. In 2019, that vision became the BIO Challenge, uniting 200 students with 50 academics from the University of Sydney to tackle real medical problems. From those early beginnings, BIOTech Futures has grown into a national community dedicated to shaping the future of bioengineering.

Our Mission

BIOTech Futures connects high school students with world-class academics and researchers across Australia. We break down the barriers between the classroom and the laboratory — building a community where curiosity meets expertise, and where the next generation of innovators can thrive.

Our Values

Collaborative Mentorship

Mentorship is a two-way exchange. Mentors share expertise; students bring fresh thinking. Together, they drive innovation that neither could reach alone.

The Power of Perspective

History's greatest breakthroughs were led by young minds. We recognise students not just as learners, but as catalysts for discovery.

Empowering Innovation

We provide the tools, networks, and community for students to turn inspiration into action and spark a lifelong passion for STEM.
